Marbury WI November AGM
President Beryl Fletcher welcomed members to Marbury WI’s AGM on 14th November, and confirmed meetings of Healthy Eating group on 6th December and the Book Club on the 12th. The Walking Group will tour Chester on Monday 27thNovember, and the Group Carol Service will be at St. Mary’s Church, Nantwich, on 4th December. The AGM started with Secretary Lynn Horton’s annual report, mentioning our varied and interesting speakers, the Bowls Team’s success, and fund-raising events including our very enjoyable 90th Birthday Tea Party. Carol Love presented the Treasurer’s Report. Beryl then gave her President’s address, and in concluding she thanked Lynn for her hard work throughout the year, and all the members for their support. Joint winners of the Competition Salver were Barbara Oakley and Carol Sheard. Beryl was re-elected President for the coming year, and Barbara Oakley – on behalf of members – thanked her for a successful and enjoyable year.
Our speaker, the Rev. Lynne Morris, was one of the first lady vicars and set a very jolly tone for the evening with her anecdotes of various mishaps which she’d experienced during her Ministry – chiefly, as she put it, concerned with the “hatch, match and dispatch” services! She kept us all thoroughly amused with tales such as the bride whose pet dog relieved itself on the long train of her beautiful dress just before she left for the church, and the groom whose mobile phone rang in the middle of the service – and he answered it! Hilary Tucker gave the vote of thanks. The competition was won by Barbara Oakley, and the raffle by Lynn Horton.
The next meeting will be on Tuesday 12th December – for information please contact Beryl Fletcher (01948 664889).
